Until Next Year, Carole…

As Carole Lombard month comes to a close, I’d like to thank everyone for the nice emails I have received about the content this month. Carole is one of the only golden age stars that I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say they didn’t like. It seems she was that way in person too; I don’t recall anyone having anything nasty to say about her.

Carole was an important piece of Clark’s life for sure and her death singlehandedly shaped the rest of his life. I’m not so sure he would have joined the Army if not for her death, although Carole might have eventually talked him into it–her last telegram to him encouraged him to join up. I think his career would have turned out differently; I imagine Carole would have persuaded him into taking more risks professionally and perhaps he would have left MGM sooner and could have done some great dramatic parts at other studios, perhaps he even could have stepped into television a bit. I’ve always been of the opinion that Carole would have jumped head first into television–if not having a program of her own, certainly guest starring and appearing on game shows like many of her contemporaries.

Carole Lombard Month may be over for this year, but don’t forget you can still find Carole all over this site:

* Hear Clark and Carole plea for the Red Cross in this audio clip from 1937

* Hear interviews Clark and Carole did with Fred Othman in 1941

* Read a brief recap of their relationship and see Carole’s will

* See nearly 300 pictures of them as a couple as well as 100 pictures from their one feature film in the gallery

* Read dozens of articles about Carole and Clark as a couple in The Article Archive

And stay tuned because October brings much excitement to this site…
