Gossip Friday: Hunting in the Homeland
From November 1941:
Clark Gable said to be hunting in Ohio.
The state conservation division reported today that movie actor Clark Gable was hunting in Henry County.
Division officials said Henry County officials, in reporting a shortage of hunting licenses, said that the movie star was one of thousands of out-of-state hunters who had applied for a license.

From the chair and the ‘shell stand’ or ‘position stand’ behind him, this shot is of Clark Gable either shooting Trap or Skeet, where the prey is the dreaded ‘clay pigeon’ sold 100 in a box marked ‘Do Not Use Around Hogs as the components will kill them.’ Hardly hunting, and it needs no license. Not You Fault, Dear Mr. Gable, but rather the 1941 editor being lazy and using a stock photo. But the Man looks good, doesn’t he, with his shooting glove on the left hand (the barrels get hot) and his shooting glasses to make the clay targets stand out against the light. Even wearing a tie, so he must be at a swanky Sportsmans’ Country Club that has shooting on the grounds. By all accounts he was quite the sportsman.
