We’re 10!
Today marks the 10th Anniversary of DearMrGable.com! The website launched on July 1, 2009, hand-coded by me after reading Website Building for Dummies. It was kind of on a whim. I had loved and admired Clark Gable for years, sure. I was involved in classic film fan groups on the internet and it often turned out that I was one of the only ones who had read up on Clark and seen all his films. I quickly discovered that while many classic film stars had active websites devoted to them, Clark really didn’t, which shocked me. I was surprised the domain name was available, snapped it up and here we…

Gone with the Wednesday: Some Upcoming 75th Anniversary Events
Following the celebration in Marietta, there are a few more events in the coming months celebrating Gone with the Wind’s 75th Anniversary: The 75th Anniversary edition Blu Ray will be available Sept. 30. The transfer is the same as the 70th and so is most of the content, aside from a documentary “Old South/New South” which compares Civil War locations then and now. For a while i heard rumblings of both a new Gable documentary and a new Leslie Howard one on the set, but alas it does not appear to be. It does include a music box and a replica of Rhett Butler’s “RB” handkerchief (yes, I’m serious.) More…

Gone with the Wednesday: Marietta Celebrates the 75th Anniversary
This past weekend, I was among the “Windies,” taking part in the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum‘s 75th Anniversary Celebration in Marietta, Georgia. Three days of activities were planned and Gone with the Wind fans came out in droves…I met people from all over the country, from Italy, England and Russia. (Shout out to Kendra, Robbie and Marissa, who made the event so enjoyable for us!) On Friday, we attended a satire play of Gone with the Wind called “The Wind Has Left,” with Patrick Curtis (toddler Beau in GWTW) as Rhett and Morgan Brittany (Vivien Leigh in “The Scarlett O’Hara Wars” and “Gable and Lombard”) as Scarlett. It…

In Memory of Ann Rutherford: “I guess things like hands and ladies don’t matter so much anymore…”
It was with a heavy heart that I learned of Ann Rutherford’s passing yesterday. She lived to be 94, which is itself an accomplishment, but my heart just breaks as we continue to lose these classic stars. Their era is fading away, and with them goes their memories. I met Ann for the first time in November 2009 at the 70th anniversary of Gone with the Wind event in Marietta, GA . She was full of life, very spunky and those big brown eyes were quite the giveaway to her youthful self. I only spoke with her briefly. At the time I was pregnant and she congratulated me and said, “I hope you’ll show…

{Event} Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum–Belles, Beaus and Barbecue
Last weekend I headed down to Marietta Square for a Gone with the Wind event held by the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum. I didn’t attend all the events, such as Friday night’s Sock Hop. You can see the full schedule here. Saturday we headed down to the square near the museum for Belles, Beaus and Barbecue! Summer in Atlanta is not pleasant, as any fellow resident will attest. It was 94 degrees on Saturday and it sure did feel like it! We managed to stay in the shade and we had our fancy hand fans to keep us cool. There were several brave souls who showed up in their…

Clark on the Auction Block
As was widely publicized, the first auction of Debbie Reynolds’ amazing collection of Hollywood artifacts was held this past weekend. Her collection was/is absolutely amazing– there is no other word for the truly astounding pieces included. Although not really the “jaw-droppers”, there were a few Clark Gable items up on the block, unfortunately all a bit out of my price range: Clark’s personal dressing gown, which he owned for many years and used during production of Gone with the Wind, Honky Tonk and other films. (Clark’s wearing it in the picture above) Described: Clark Gable personal dressing gown for off-screen use during filming of Gone with the Wind. (David O.…

{Event Report} Marietta Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the novel Gone with the Wind
The great thing about Gone with the Wind events is that you get to see your old friends, the same friendly “Windy” faces you have seen at previous events. And, not only that, but you get to meet new fans as well! Also, I tend to enjoy events that take place in Atlanta–my hometown–less travel time for me! This event (June 10 & 11) was designed to focus more on the book than the film, it seems, but still included two of the “Beaus”: Patrick Curtis and Mickey Kuhn, Scarlett’s little sister “Carreen O’Hara”: Ann Rutherford, Zuzu (“Every time a bell rings…”) from It’s a Wonderful Life: Karolyn Grimes, and Morgan…
