Gossip Friday: Below Freezing
From March 1947:
Clark Gable and Lana Turner are another pair of movie lovers who are not presently what you might call friendly. During “Homecoming,” the atmosphere on the set was below freezing they tell me. And that’s really strange because Lana and Clark are the two sexiest characters in the film business. I mean, if anyone can out-sexy Clark, it’s Lana–and vice versa. I’m told they had an outside date once and something went wrong. However, they’re both too smart to let it show in their movies.

This woman. I’ve always enjoyed her movies. I think she was beautiful. I think she was a pretty good actress. BUT, my opinion of her is coloured by the rumours about a possible affair between her and Clark around the time of Carole’s death. I don’t know if it’s true- I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. BUT, the possibility has soured me on her. Having said that, I adore this movie as I feel that it was a gloriously poignant performance by a newly matured Clark. I love the way it mirrored his personal life and situation in many ways. Carole’s death and then the war broke Clark, but he also became a better man after these traumas imo.

lana said they didn’t have an affair and from books of CG assistance Carol getting home was about the celebration that was being given for her as well as the fact that clark couldn’t wait to see her….all saying if lana said they didn’t have an affair we need to let it go.
