Gossip Friday: What a Contrast
From June 1944:
At an Army and Navy dinner dance recently we sat kitty-corner from Captain Clark Gable who had pretty Kay Williams as his girl friend. We thought the two a handsome pair but couldn’t help comparing the quiet, almost demure Kay to the vivid, magnetic Carole. What a contrast.

Kay was quiet and demure?? If she was then, she sure as heck “changed” by the time she and Clark reconnected years later according to the accounts I’ve read. I wonder why? 🙂

She had learned to “play the part?”. Was that too rude of me? Sorry about that, but it kinda had to be the case, at least on some level. It has been said of her that she went to great lengths to ” win” out over sweet Virginia Grey, who had a very long history with both Clark and Carole. Ah, desire, thou name is woman!
