Some gossip about Ann, from May 1940:
Ann Rutherford tells us that every time she goes into one of the deluxe dress shops in town the clerks watch her from the moment she enters until the door closes behind her. “Admiring me? she laughed. “Well, not exactly. They’re just keeping an eagle eye on me because I copy their designs.” With one squint at a swanky model, three yards of silk crepe and an evening at home, the little Rutherford gal can produce a Paris model.
