    Photo Mystery Solved!

    As a fan of both Clark and Carole (and classic Hollywood in general), I have always been puzzled by these pictures: They are of a mustache-less Clark conversing with Carole, It Happened One Night director Frank Capra, and his IHON costar, Claudette Colbert. So what’s so peculiar? Well, Claudette is dressed in her IHON costume and since they are with Capra, one would assume that these are on-the-set candids. But a few things have always puzzled me about them: First, Clark was sporting a mustache in IHON and had been for over a year prior.     Some “Melodrama” in Public Enemies (2009)

    I recently saw the new Johnny Depp film, Public Enemies, about notorious bank robber John Dillinger.  Dillinger was famously gunned down by FBI agents in front of the Biograph Theater in Chicago, after seeing Gable’s film Manhattan Melodrama. He was set up by friend of his, Romanian prostitute Anna Sage, who was facing deportation and volunteered to hand him over to the feds in exchange for her visa.  She told the FBI they would be at the movies that evening and wore an orange (later misidentified as red) dress to alert them to him.     Updates

    I’ve been adding things here and there this week. Including: The Lux radio show The Legionnaire and the Lady, costarring Marlene Dietrich. She sings her classic “Falling in Love Again” at the end and Clark also makes some comments. If you haven’t checked out Imperfect Lady yet, you should! Not only is it adorable and the only performance he did with Ginger Rogers, but at the end they make him and Ginger play a quiz game which he loses and has to do a “forfeit”.
